From September 15 to 17, the 21st Kunming International Flower Expo of China was held at the Dianchi International Convention and Exhibition Center. There were 39 flower and gardening companies from 12 countries, including the Netherlands, India, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Australia, France, and Japan. A total of 409 domestic companies participated in the exhibition.
Yunnan is an important flower province. In 2022, the flower planting area in Yunnan Province reached approximately 150,000 hectares, the production scale remained basically stable, and the output value of the entire industry chain exceeded 110 billion yuan. Among them, the planting area of fresh-cut flowers exceeds 20,000 hectares, with an output of 17.717 billion branches and an output value of 15.776 billion yuan, accounting for more than 50% of the country’s total fresh-cut flower output. The production and sales of fresh-cut flowers have ranked first in the country for 29 consecutive years. The area of soilless cultivation and water and fertilizer circulation of fresh cut flowers in Yunnan has exceeded 1,726 hectares; the Dounan Flower Market has a transaction volume of 11 billion fresh cut flowers and a transaction volume of 12.1 billion yuan, continuing to maintain its position as the largest flower trading and distribution center in Asia.

During the expo, international conferences on the Modernization and Development of Facilities and Equipment in the Flower Industry and the Protection of New Plant Varieties in China (Flowers) were also held to discuss the cases and current situation of variety protection, as well as future policy trends for the protection of new plant varieties. The conference on the Modernization and Development of Facilities and Equipment shared the Dutch experience in improving high-tech greenhouse operation capabilities and using innovative tools to effectively manage energy consumption, as well as new achievements, new technologies, and new ideas in flower production. The integration of water and fertilizer, small and medium-sized efficient applicable machinery and equipment, sprinkler and drip irrigation, and other modern facility agriculture are promoted to improve the level of high-end facilities and equipment in the flower industry in Yunnan.
