The story of the Infinity pot roses

It started in 2009 when the Danish breeding company Roses Forever developed a white pot rose, which stood out by its long-lasting flowers (+5 weeks) and flower size (+7cm diameter). Later, it also appeared to be a rose that was easy to grow, and that required only one cut, meaning a shorter production time than traditional pot roses. Breeder Rosa Eskelund fell in love immediately, and Infinity was born. It was accepted quickly in the market, and the demand for other colors arose. Nowadays, there are 7 varieties in the series.

Demand for more colors right from the start
The interest and demand for the white Infinity was great, and right from the start, there was also a demand for more colors, Rosa explains. "White could suddenly be sold in larger quantities. And some of the larger customers who sell the plants told me, 'As soon as you have one more color, it's a series, and we will only sell Infinity in our stores.' So, we immediately started to develop the white Infinity into other colors."

Infinity

Worldwide demand
In 2013, the baby pink 'Princess of Infinity 'entered the market, and it boosted the demand. "Many greenhouse growers from Japan and China in the east, to Norway and Denmark in the north, as well large Dutch producers, took the Infinity roses into production. And did you know that a real princess baptized the 'Princess of Infinity'? Namely Crown Princess Mary of Denmark."

Easy to cultivate
Besides the appearance, the Infinity roses are not only easy to cultivate, but they also have a short cultivation time. "On top of the flower size and durability, which stand out from a traditional potted rose, growers also save precious weeks on the culture time in the greenhouse, this also means less use of light, heat, plant protection per plant."

Versatile product
And the product is a versatile product, continues Rosa. "They are grown in pot - sizes from 10.5 cm up to 15 cm and also work well in bowls from 19-21 cm. Some greenhouse growers choose to mix the varieties in pots, a product for which we see the demand increasing. Some of these popular mixes are Princess with white for Christmas and Princess with white and yellow for springtime."
