UK: James Coles Nurseries celebrates 110th anniversary

Coles Nurseries has celebrated their 110th anniversary.

Established in 1913, Coles Nurseries has a rich and storied history that spans over a century. Founded by James Coles, a visionary horticulturist, the nursery began as a modest venture, starting off with a selection of plants and a passion for cultivating green spaces. Over the years, under James Coles' hands-on guidance, the nursery grew both in reputation and scale.

In the early years, Coles Nurseries gained recognition for its exceptional quality of plants and trees, drawing the attention of landscapers, garden enthusiasts, and even esteemed institutions. James Coles' dedication to cultivating rare and exotic species set the nursery apart, earning them a loyal customer base. To commemorate this significant milestone, a grand celebration was organized, held on the memorable date of Friday, September 15. This event served as an expression of gratitude to the nursery's dedicated workforce, whose commitment has been instrumental in achieving this remarkable feat. Moreover, it was an occasion to recognize the dedication and loyalty of several longstanding employees.

The following individuals were honored with long service awards:

Louise McCarthy, James Moffatt, Gavin Lee-Shield, and Don Irons received the 15 Years Bronze Service award in recognition of their decade-and-a-half commitment to Coles Nurseries.

Michael Kelly and Rob Hickling were acknowledged with the 35 Years Gold Service award, commemorating their remarkable 35-year journey with the nursery.

Additionally, the prestigious 40 Years RHS Medal for Service to Horticulture was bestowed upon Clinton Barratt, Stephen Robson, and Nigel Garner, highlighting their exceptional four-decade-long contribution to the field of horticulture.

This celebration not only marked a historic achievement for Coles Nurseries but also reinforced their commitment to providing exceptional service and fostering a community dedicated to the art and science of horticulture. As they embark on the next chapter of their journey, Coles Nurseries remains deeply appreciative of the trust and support bestowed upon them by their customers and partners over the years.
