US (NC): Myers Greenhouse reflects on 40 years of success in horticulture

James Meyer was only 17 when the inaugural greenhouse project took root. Its primary goal is fundraising for an activity bus. Meyer’s father, a steward of a small greenhouse throughout their school years, laid the groundwork for a passion that burgeoned into a lifelong commitment.

As James and his spouse tied the knot, the couple immersed themselves in the world of horticulture. The business began to grow steadily, and what once started as a modest project soon transformed into Myers Greenhouse—a sprawling enterprise spanning over an acre and a half, with 33 bays and greenhouses.

The founder details the impressive scale of their operation, boasting a diverse collection of plants in approximately 5,000 pots, ranging in size from 4 to 10 inches. With 14 different varieties of petunias and a meticulous approach to watering, the greenhouse has become a haven for plant enthusiasts and landscapers alike.

A pivotal moment in the greenhouse’s history was the construction of a specialized house equipped with individual drip tubes for each plant. This innovation proved instrumental in overcoming challenges like overwatering and betrus problems, resulting in a significantly more successful crop.
