Since 4 January, there has been significant coverage of the Horticultural Trade Association's (HTA's) concerns regarding post-Brexit border checks and the readiness of the new Border Target Operating Model. This coverage follows the HTA's regular engagement with the Financial Times and colleagues in the Netherlands, specifically with trade associations VGB and Royal Anthos. The story ran in the Financial Times last Thursday and was also covered by other national newspapers, including The Guardian, The Times, Sky News, Daily Mail, and Daily Star.

In the articles, the Dutch Association of Wholesalers in Floricultural Products (VGB) has called for a delay in introducing border checks until 2025, which they issued in a letter to the UK government. Our Chairman, James Barnes, was also quoted highlighting the rising complexity of the steps needed to import products since Brexit.
The key concerns raised in the media revolve around the readiness of border infrastructure and processes, the functionality of Government IT systems, and the critical timing of the proposed changes coinciding with high trading volumes.
The Horticultural Trades Association is actively advocating for and working towards solutions to these challenges and supporting member preparedness. We understand the significant impact, risks, and concerns these changes will have on the industry and are committed to keeping you informed on developments. Member feedback and insights are crucial to our ongoing efforts.
