NL: Westland wants to hide greenhouse horticulture behind greenery

Growers in Westland who want to establish a water basin or hard surface are being given requirements for a 'green design.' The municipal government has established policy rules. These are aimed at ensuring a water basin along the road is 'sufficiently invisible.' The government has observed that this is often not the case currently.

According to the zoning plans for the Westland greenhouse horticulture area, an environmental permit is required for the construction of a water basin or hard surfaces at greenhouse horticulture companies. The policy rules for the green design of water basins and entrances to greenhouse horticulture companies provide further detail on the conditions for an environmental permit for these works.

Depending on the location where the water basin or hard surface is planned, different requirements apply for sufficient green integration, with the entrepreneur having the freedom to choose from various options. An entrepreneur can opt for a 'minimum' variant but can also do more to contribute to a more than sufficient green design.

The city council will discuss the plans on January 31.
