Rosselkhoznadzor has appealed to the competent authorities of European Union countries to strengthen control over the shipment of Ecuadorian and Dutch-origin roses to Russia due to numerous violations of phytosanitary requirements in flower deliveries.
Numerous phytosanitary violations prompted this action to prevent quarantine pests from entering ahead of spring. Despite Rosselkhoznadzor's requests, EU authorities haven't responded adequately to address the ongoing violations.
About 41% of Ecuadorian and Dutch roses, some contaminated, enter Russia via EU countries.
These contaminated flowers pose a severe threat to Russia's greenhouse industry, carrying viruses detrimental to various crops. Losses could reach 100% for tomatoes and peppers and 80% for lettuce and peanuts.
The spread of pests like tomato thrips could result in significant annual losses for Russian producers.
Rosselkhoznadzor's vigilance aims to safeguard Russia's agriculture from further damage.
