Over the past year, the Dutch company Havatec has further developed the Florastar for the lily cultivation sector. They equipped it with a color camera and X-ray system. By integrating these two camera systems and analyzing the images they generate, lilies can now be sorted by bud number, stem length, and the first bud's maturity and length.
Customers can use this new software to sell precisely sorted flowers. As stated by Jorien Plak-Schouten (responsible for the machine manufacturer's sales): 'client order-driven operations' are now a reality.
The Florastar operates at a speed of approximately 9,850 trays per hour. With three loading areas, the machine can be fully loaded. It can be configured for five different sorting categories.

The Florastar can be used for a wide range of flowers besides lilies. Those include carnations, chrysanthemums, snapdragons, alstroemerias, and statice.
