March 4-8, 2024, has been designated Green Career Week, a nationwide effort led by local horticulture, agriculture, and floriculture businesses and organizations around the country designed to expose local community college and university students to outstanding career opportunities in these fields.
"Students are passing by flower farms, greenhouses, landscape companies or vertical farming facilities on a regular basis and don't see them as an employer," says Jazmin Albarran, executive director of Seed Your Future, the organization that's spearheading the effort. "They don't realize all the different positions that you have working directly with the plants, flowers, and produce, but also the administrative jobs that you have in accounting, HR, marketing, graphic design, sales, and customer service. We want students of all ages to realize that no matter what their passion is, they can find a career with us."
"People in general are looking for jobs, and the agriculture industry is looking for employees, so it's time to connect them," says Albarran. FullCircle26, inc. is among the local businesses taking part in Green Career Week.
Shelley Mathews, Founder/CEO: "We are connecting with schools to educate students about industry careers to promote the "AG" industry. We want to show students the many opportunities agriculture/horticulture presents for careers and internships here in Milwaukee. We'll be showing them what jobs in several departments are like on a day-to-day basis, from marketing to IT to design."
