Looking back at The Floral Conference with a spotlight on the Breeders' Showcase:

"A day full of learning, innovation, and connection"

Last week, on February 27, the Floral Conference, organized by the International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA), took place in Anaheim, CA.

The event began with the Breeders' Showcase, highlighting the latest in floral variety development to retail buyers. Following that, during the general session, discussions on the floral industry's current state took center stage, revealing intriguing insights, such as 60% of men enjoying receiving flowers. After this, Jay van Zyl provided a fascinating perspective on AI's impact on the floral industry, emphasizing AI's role in catering to consumer desires for novelty and ensuring that AI serves as a tool to enhance human efforts, not replace them. A panel of Gen Z experts offered valuable thoughts on AI from their viewpoints as both users and consumers, enriching the discussion with their insights.

There was also ample opportunity for networking, making it a day full of learning, innovation, and connection.

Jelle Posthumus of United Selections.

"What an inspiring event it was this year!" says Nelson Kimathi United Selections, one of the participants in the Breeders' Showcase. "Visitors to the showcase, for example, were not only mesmerized by the visual feast of colors and textures but also engaged in lively discussions about the future of horticulture. The event facilitated meaningful exchanges between breeders and supermarket buyers."

This rose breeder brought a selection of varieties of both standard and spray flowers to the event. "Attendees were treated to an exclusive look at some of our most captivating varieties, including the varieties such as elegant 'Madam Cerise,' the vibrant 'Rise & Shine,' the majestic 'Cotopaxi,' the radiant 'Golden Blossoms,' the exquisite 'Wedding Blossoms,' and the fiery 'Hot Blossoms,' among others. These selections highlighted the innovation and diversity that United Selections brings to the floral market, capturing the attention and admiration of all who attended."

As the event wrapped up, the air in Anaheim was buzzing with inspiration and anticipation for next year's conference. "The Breeders' Showcase not only celebrated the art and science of breeding but also set the stage for the future of floriculture—a future that is as bright and diverse as the flowers it champions."

Below are some more pictures of the breeders that were participating in the event.

Rodrigo Rolon from Könst Alstroemeria.

"With the conference now behind us, the images and stories from Anaheim's Breeders' Showcase continue to inspire. As we look forward to the innovations and beauty that next year will bring, we remain grateful for the community's passion and dedication that make events like this possible", Kimathi concludes.
