Dutch exports of cut flowers to Russia slightly decreased

'The Dutch Agricultural Sector in an International Context' report shows that in 2023, the Netherlands exported €123.8 billion worth of agricultural goods, a 1.6% increase from 2022. This modest growth is attributed to price increases, as the export volume declined in 2023. The import of agricultural goods decreased by 3.3% to €83.9 billion in 2023.

The export value of ornamental crops such as flowers, houseplants, trees, and bulbs was approximately €11.5 billion in 2023, virtually unchanged from the previous year. Of these goods, 85% were domestically produced. The import value decreased by over 3% to €2.3 billion.

A separate chapter in the report is dedicated to Russia and Ukraine, focusing on cut flowers. It shows, among other things, that the export of cut flowers has only slightly decreased over two years, from €243.5 million in 2021 to €223.7 million in 2023. The Ukrainian market is smaller, but the decline is proportionally larger. In 2021, €32.7 million worth of cut flowers were exported to the country, compared to €23.5 million in 2023.
