Colombian flower exports bloom 10% on Mother’s Day

According to the Colombian Association of Flower Exporters (Asocolflores), a 10% increase in flower exports is projected this year, which marks a significant boost for the national economy. The main receiving markets are the United States, with 77% of the total; followed by the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan and the Netherlands, among others.

The most exported species include roses, carnations, chrysanthemums, hydrangeas and astromelias, standing out for their quality and variety. In 2023, flower exports reached a record US$2.08 billion, surpassing the previous year's figures, driven by growing international demand.

To satisfy demand during this season, the Colombian flower sector creates 27,000 temporary jobs, complementing the 200,000 direct and indirect jobs that already exist. Additionally, 300 additional cargo flights are scheduled to transport the flowers to international destinations.
