US (MN): Flowers available for Grandmas Marathon finishers thanks to local farm

Few things say "job well done" like a bouquet of flowers. At Grandma's Marathon this year, runners will be able to purchase a finish line bouquet on race day thanks to a local grower.

After Pheidippides ran 26.2 miles in the first Marathon to tell his fellow Greeks of a Persian invasion, he collapsed and died. Finishers at Grandma's Marathon in Duluth fare a lot better. They get what organizers call a very heavy, very awesome medal, and this year, they can get flowers, too.

Donna Hoffbauer of Duluth Flower Company has made a deal with Grandma's Marathon. Donna and her dad Derek are part of the famous farming Hoffbauer family, which includes Farmer Doug, a familiar face on the farmer's market scene.

"We are a great fit together and now we are the official supplier of flowers to the finish line at Grandma's Marathon 2024," said Derek Hoffbauer.
