Ukraine: Greening Odesa despite shelling

The enterprise "Miskzelenrest" in Odesa, Ukraine, has been responsible for greening the city for 100 years, providing it with park areas, flower beds, and flowers. Despite suffering damage from shelling, including damage to the "Rose" greenhouse, the work continues. The blast wave damaged the greenhouse's glass roof, but it was temporarily replaced with a thick film, which has performed well. The glass roof is planned to be restored in the future.

"Miskzelenrest" independently grows plants in its own Dutch-type greenhouse, which covers an area of 4,000 square meters. Approximately 40 types of flowers are grown here, including roses, geraniums, marigolds, salvias, impatiens, violas, wallflowers, forget-me-nots, daisies, and others. All the flowers grown in the greenhouse are planted throughout Odesa.

In addition to flowers, conifers are also grown in the greenhouse, which are planted in the city once they reach a certain size. The enterprise only purchases seeds, from which all the green plants are grown. Preparation for the next season has already begun, specifically the cultivation of spring flowers, which requires the purchase of seeds and their planting in September.

"Miskzelenrest" plants about 500,000 green plants annually. This year, 200,000 flowers have already been planted in the spring, and another 300,000 are planned to be planted in the summer.
