Silphie Paper packaging nominated for Salon Du Végétal Innovovert Prize 2024

Decowraps Europe's Silphie paper packaging has been nominated for the Innovert prize at the Salon Du Végétal 2024.Decowraps states: "In a world paying increasing attention to environmental impact, Decowraps Europe introduces Silphie paper as a revolutionary step towards greener and more responsible paper production. With a remarkable content of 35% fibers from the Silphie plant, an energy crop with great side-effects in biodiversity and soil improvement, this paper is a true front-runner in applying residuals flows, being an alternative to using wood for paper."

Silphie Paper
The Silphie paper packaging is fully produced in Europe, both the paper rolls as well as the conversion into packaging, aiming to keep the supply chain and ecological footprint, as small as possible.According to Decowraps, Silphie paper promotes biodiversity, improves soil quality, supports efficient water management and contributes to active carbon sequestration.

  • Biodiversity Boost

By using remnants of the Silphium plant, Decowraps seeks to actively contribute to the flourishing of local ecosystems, creating a harmonious balance between industrial progress and nature conservation.

  • Soil enrichment

The company adds that Silphie paper actively improves soil quality as it degrades, creating a fertile base for plants and contributing to a healthier environment.

  • Water management

They claim that with a focus on responsible water management, Silphie paper offers a sustainable alternative that contributes to efficient water use and conservation, essential for future sustainability.

  • CO₂ Storage

They add, as an active carbon storage source, Silphie paper contributes to reducing carbon emissions, playing an important role in the fight against climate change.

Decowraps' Vision: Completing the cycle
Decowraps believes in the power of Silphie as a plant to create a complete cycle, producing paper from a residual stream, maximizing sustainability and minimizing environmental impact.

Words by Ralph Van t' Hart
Ralph Van t' Hart, commercial director of Decowraps Europe, says: "In our circular roadmap, we determined that using residual streams as raw materials, is one of the most sustainable ways to produce packaging. With the introduction of Silphie paper in our range, we have taken another big step towards a fully circular floriculture sector."

Recognition at Salon Du Végétal
The Innovert prize will be awarded at the Salon Du Végétal, a horticultural trade fair in Europe and celebrates the most innovative products and solutions within the green industry. The winners will be announced from 10 to 12 September during the fair in Angers, France.

Decowraps Europe invites customers, partners and interested parties to visit their stand and discover more about the Silphie paper packaging and other sustainable packaging solutions they offer. "This nomination confirms not only our leadership in innovation, but also our commitment to promoting a circular economy within the floriculture sector."
