Flora Delight expands its range with delphiniums and kalanchoe

Flora Delight's flowers attracted a lot of attention during IFTEX, two weeks ago in Nairobi, Kenya. Frans Ederveen from Flora Delight showed a series of new colors of hydrangeas, delphiniums and a cut-flower variant of the kalanchoe.

Expansion
Previously, Flora Delight used to be primarily known for their hydrangeas. However, this year they also presented delphiniums and various kalanchoe varieties at the fair. Since 2013, Flora Delight has been growing hydrangeas in Kenya all year round. The demand for these flowers increased rapidly, allowing the company to quickly gain market share. Today, Flora Delight supplies hydrangeas worldwide, and in the past year they have expanded their range to include delphiniums and kalanchoe cut-flowers.

Overcoming challenges
Through expanding their assortment, Flora Delight sought to offer a complete package. More intense hydrangea cultivation in recent years turned this into a reality. "We still have 18 hectares of cultivation area and now supply almost all our products directly," says Frans Ederveen. According to him, the pandemic was a challenging period, during which they decided to offer a broader package to their customers. Moreover, they have optimized their hydrangea cultivation in such a way that they can grow the same amount of stems in a smaller area. "It allowed us to explore other crops." In previous years, they added chrysanthemums and gerberas to their assortment.

Color splendor
Aside from usual hydrangea colors, such as white, light blue and soft pink, brighter colors were also on display at the fair. For instance, green, purple, and red. The delphiniums came in various blue and purple shades, as well as a white variety. During IFTEX, kalanchoe cut-flowers shone in various pastel shades.
