Russia: Rosselkhoznadzor prevents import of gerbera daisies from China in Primorsky Krai

On July 1, the Primorsky directorate of Rosselkhoznadzor prevented the import of nearly 75,000 gerbera daisies from China due to the detection of a quarantine pest for the Eurasian Economic Union – the Western Flower Thrips.

The samples of the flowers were subjected to entomological examination by the Primorsky Interregional Veterinary Laboratory, a subordinate institution of Rosselkhoznadzor.

According to the testing protocol dated July 1, 2024, the batch of 74,835 gerbera cuttings was found to be infested with the Western Flower Thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis Pergande), a quarantine pest for the EAEU.

As a result, the Rosselkhoznadzor Directorate has prohibited the release of the product. The batch of contaminated flowers will be destroyed.
