5 ha bell pepper production in Armenia inaugurated

On May 15th, 2024, Hakob Azaryan, CEO of Green Solutions and Benjamin Richel, CEO of Richel Group inaugurated the construction of the first phase of a 5-hectare greenhouse, part of a 30-hectare project in the Sevan region of Armenia. Situated at the 40th parallel and almost 2000 meters above sea level, this unique location near Lake Sevan enjoys incredible sunny weather with mild summers.

Climate and water quality
"When we first started thinking about this project, it was clear to us that climate and water quality are key to success. Despite most of this land not being used for any crops so far, it has been a long journey to gather more than 220 parcels and acquire over 110 hectares of land in this region. Due to the high level of unemployment in the region and also thanks to the highly positive social and economic impact of the project, we received very strong support from local authorities and the government of Armenia. Besides this, we had to talk to every single landlord and family to finally be able to start the project," recalls Hakob.

Sow load capacity
With a post height of 6.5 meters and a ridge height of 10.3 meters, this 12.8-meter wide multi-span greenhouse is specially designed to grow bell peppers on hanging gutters, with a snow load capacity of up to 80 kg/m². "We considered several potential suppliers for this project, but the Richel Group quickly showed that they can offer more than just technology. They have been a real partner from the initial design phase and all the way till the finalization of the project. They have an office here with incredibly motivated young managers. Davit Tadevosyan and Inessa Gevorgyan, are bridging the gap between France and Armenia to ensure a perfect coordination of the project," added mr Azaryan.

Green Solutions
Benjamin Rcihel declared, "We are very proud of this partnership! For sure, the 30-hectare project is massive, but there is something more here to be noticed. We are treated as equals in a partnership where we truly believe that mutual understanding can elevate both parties. I am totally confident that this project will achieve remarkable production, both in a high yield numbers, distinctive quality and safety of the product, and will attract a lot of attention. I would like to thank Hakob for confidence in our partnership, the impressive inauguration ceremony, and his hospitality. Long live Green Solutions!"
