US (PA): Local farms, garden centers take extra steps to make sure their plants are safe amid dangerous heat

High temperatures are creating more challenges for farms and garden centers in Pennsylvania. "A lot more, keeping it all alive," said David Sell, The Seed Farm manager.

Sell talks about how frequently he has to keep his plants hydrated amid the heat. "Now, it seems like there's longer stretches where it's hotter longer, rain is predicted, but it might not happen where you are," said Sell.

He put a shade on the greenhouse for the plants inside. "Get the direct sunlight dispersed, so it's not as harsh on the plants," said Sell. A short drive away at Herbeins Garden Center, owner Thomas Bull is also watering a lot more.

"Probably doubled what we typically do in watering and doubled the time involved in watering also," said Bull.
