Rosa Eskelund, Roses Forever

“We see that growers attach much value to roses that are healthy, rain-proof, and easy to pot”

"In Paris it rained all spring and early summer," says Rosa Eskelund of Roses Forever, a Danish rose breeding company. In several parts of Europe this year's spring and summer have been relatively cold and rainy. Although this has its disadvantages, it's also an opportunity to see whether flowers and plants can withstand considerable amounts of rainfall. As was the case for Roses Forever, two of their rose varieties received international awards for their performance in these weather conditions.

It was in Paris where varieties of Roses Forever won prizes during Concours International de Roses in Park de Bagatelle. On June 20, during the award ceremony in Park de Bagatelle, Rosa took the stage twice. She received prizes for the floribundas 'What a Wonderful World' Plant 'n' Relax, and 'The Matador' Plant 'n' Relax. These two flower won the first and second prize respectively of the so called Certificat Paysage (the landscape category). "Their health, full flowers, and their ability to bloom in a rainy summer made them the winners of this competition," Rosa comments.

Two days earlier, Roses Forever also received an accolade in the International Rose Novelty Competition in Baden-Baden, Germany. During this rose competition, 139 garden rose varieties were judged by an international jury. Aside from the 'Golden Rose of Baden-Baden' award, the participants could also compete for other honorary prizes such as the one by the Casino Baden-Baden. This year, it was Roses Forever's Orange Sunrise Plant 'n' Relax that received this prize: "It's a big honor to win in Baden-Baden. Every prize or medal that our roses win is an acknowledgement of their qualities, and our breeding efforts," Rosa says. If the name Orange Sunrise Plant 'n' Relax sounds familiar to you, that may be because this rose won gold in the 'Hybrid Tea' category of the 7th annual International Rose Trials in Monaco.

Rosa concludes: "We are glad that we won these prizes because we see that growers attach much value to roses that are healthy, rainproof, and easy to pot for garden centers. Nowadays, customers prefer roses that are easy to maintain, and that stay nice in gardens in all kinds of weather conditions."
