Season of Aster Showmakers kicks off with expansion

Summer is in full swing, and that means only one thing: the aster season has begun! The Showmakers from breeder Royal Van Zanten are available at four growers this season. Nursery Wouters is offering Showmakers in its collection for the first time this summer.

Showmakers on offer
"The double-flowered Aster Showmakers stands out for its large, full flowers, compact growth, and dark, contrasting foliage. The color palette ranges from blue to violet. This season, no fewer than four growers have Showmakers in their range: Endhoven Flowering Plants (in 10.5cm pots), House&Garden/WPK (in 12cm pots), and Montis (in 14cm and 17cm pots). Ens-based nursery Wouters has been added to the list of Showmakers growers and is growing Showmakers in mixed pots under the name Festival Colours Asters in 12cm pots."

Enjoy the whole autumn
"The aster is known for its vigorous character and excellent performance under various climate conditions. Thanks to its floral splendor and striking greenery, Showmakers continue to flower even when other garden plants stop. The full, almost pompon-like flowers bloom until late autumn and can withstand the first light night frosts without damage. It's no wonder asters are called the queens of autumn plants."

Classification Floricode
Although Aster Showmakers from Royal Van Zanten are hybrids and not derived from the original Aster Novi-Belgii, they are classified by Floricode in the group "Aster Novi-belgii Grp." Aster Showmakers should not face import restrictions for Switzerland, as they are hybrids and therefore sterile (do not spread pollen).
