How to use keywords to optimize your business reach

When it comes to search engine optimization, words have power. How you use keywords on your website and other online platforms can hurt or help your business's organic search ranking. We talked to three SEO pros who offered tips to help you optimize how you use keywords.

Prioritize High-Impact Keywords
For the floral industry, "flower" alone isn't useful, says Dan McManus, founder and president of TeamFloral, a floral marketing consultancy that specializes in SEO. The term is too broad, as Google users could be searching for bedding material or basic information for book reports. Retailers are looking for cut-flower customers, so their keywords should be more specific, McManus says.

"In our program, we focus on the top two keywords. 'Florist' is number one and 'flower delivery' is number two," he says.

The word "florist" is so powerful, McManus says, that it worth having it in your business name. Rebranding your shop from "Laurie's Flowers" to "Laurie's Florist" can give you an SEO boost, he says.
