UK: Wyevale Nurseries receives Planet Mark Certification for sustainability

Wyevale Nurseries has achieved Planet Mark Certification in recognition of the company's improvements in sustainability (August 2024).

Using this accreditation, the commercial nursery states that it is now measuring and finding opportunities on an ongoing basis to reduce its carbon emissions, energy and water consumption, and waste creation. Wyevale Nurseries' Group Finance Director, Tim Fawbert, explains: "We are committed to reducing our carbon emissions yearly to halt climate change together.

"Our company-wide location-based measured carbon footprint in the year ending July 2023 was 1,043.0 tCO2e. This is mainly fuel and gas, fleet travel, electricity, business travel, and waste. Our measured carbon footprint per employee was 8.1 tCO2e."

This is Wyevale Nurseries' first year of business carbon footprint reporting and certification to Planet Mark. Tim adds: "We will now use this certification as the basis for our sustainability plans and to help us reduce our impact on the environment year-by-year."

Wyevale Nurseries calculated the carbon footprint of its Head Office and Transplants, Trees, and Container Divisions for the year ending July 2023 and set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually. Wyevale Nurseries' product selection regularly introduces new plant varieties. Its main business is to supply garden centers, landscape contractors, local authorities, foresters, and landowners with a comprehensive array of trees, shrubs, hedging, herbaceous and specimen plants.
