Anyone processing data electronically has to take action: cybersecurity. The upcoming European legislation NIS2 tightens network and information security in essential sectors. The objective: is to improve the resilience of Europe's digital infrastructure and improve cybersecurity.
The Network and Information Systems (NIS) Directive was introduced in 2016. Due to the enlargement of the cyber threat landscape and the rapid digitization of our society, the directive has now been tightened and expanded.
The second version, NIS2, will take effect in October 2024 and is mandatory for organizations identified as critical or important to the Dutch infrastructure.
Cyberattacks are becoming increasingly complex and common. The entire digital infrastructure could be at risk and with it multiple parties within a sector. The NIS2 directive provides a more unified approach to cybersecurity within the European Union.
