There was a nice crowd at the home fair Novae Fabula at the Green Event Centre in Bleiswijk in the Netherlans. Some 20 passionate potted plant growers were there to present their range and showcase some novelties.

Lots of orchids, calatheas, kalanchoes and monster ashes passed by at the fair. Many plants were in beautiful pots from Bunnik Creations, where the event took place. Arno of Hazeu Orchids was at the fair for the second time. The run-up was good and every year it is well attended, he says.
Roy Valstar also enjoys promoting his many varieties of calathea, and at yet another stand he tells how a buyer from a large French supermarket chain was interested in his product. At Kwekerij Martin van der Velden, Anita proudly talks about the possibilities: "Whether customers want to buy a tray or a whole trailer, it's all possible."

Several nurseries are there for a second or third time, and there are also about five new nurseries, says Richard Smit of Bunnik Creations: "Because we are large-scale, we saw this fair as an opportunity to strengthen each other. And you can see that there is a need, as we have five new participants again this year. A lot of exporters and end customers come over, but also all kinds of buyers. At the moment many people from abroad come to the Netherlands to visit fairs. For that reason, we have also planned our home fair in this period. We have tried to ensure a that there's little overlap and hope to show a diverse range."

The overall theme of the fair is "the purpose of plants", says Natascha Bak of Bunnik Plants: "We want to show what plants are good for, and we do this in cooperation with Bloemenbureau Holland. The benefits are very diverse; some plants purify the air, others provide good acoustics in a room. A real plant brings so much added value compared to a fake plant, and we want to show that."
