In recent decades, the Dutch horticulture sector has established an international reputation for technical solutions to major societal challenges such as global population growth, climate change and demand for local food production, and a green spaces. Controlled Environment Agriculture, including high-tech greenhouses, would allow the Netherlands to make a unique contribution to efficient and sustainable systems in the Netherlands and beyond.
Commissioned by Top Sector Horticulture & Starting Materials in cooperation with AVAG | Greenhouse Technology Center, and GreenTech, the film 'CEA' was made. The video (in English) shows how CEA is applied in different parts of the world using Dutch technology.
CEA means applying various technical solutions, including high-tech Dutch greenhouses, to grow the tastiest fruit and vegetables, and the most beautiful flowers and plants. In a controlled environment, growers can create the optimal climate for their crops. As a result, more yields can be realized on a much smaller area with a lower environmental impact. To achieve climate neutrality by 2040, and net-zero emissions of nutrients and crop protection products by 2030, CEA is deployed to provide food to urban areas in the Netherlands, Europe, and other parts of the world while also making them greener and healthier. In this way, horticultural technology and knowledge contributes to health and happiness.
