On Monday 2 September 2024 VD Horst celebrated its 50th anniversary. In Poeldijk (the Netherlands), the spraying company will be celebrating this. And of course, this celebration will include a selection from the photo archive.
Exactly fifty years ago, founder René van der Horst started painting greenhouse gutters for maintenance. Later, he started spraying gutters for new construction projects. Then treating heating pipes was added to their activities.
Work at the spraying company was first done 'simply' outdoors, but when environmental regulations prohibited it, René decided to 'go indoors' in Poeldijk. In the production hall, he built his own unique paint spray line. To this day, the building on Mercuriusplein is still where the spraying work takes place.
New building and maintenance
In Poeldijk, spraying work now takes place mechanically with the help of the unique paint spray line. First, they chemically pre-treat the pipes, after which a self-composed quality branded paint is sprayed on the heating pipes. A second coat of paint is then applied on site. This is handwork, they still use a flannel the for the best result.
In 2007, son Ren joined the business. In 2018, he took over the company, which by then had also been operating internationally for many years. By then, pipes from Poeldijk go all over the world, while Van der Horst also continues to perform maintenance and paint heating pipes to protect them from rusting, provide more light and heat reflection and extend the life of installations.

Merger and takeover
Acquisitions have followed in recent years. First, EK Coatings was acquired in 2020. The powder coating company in Montfoort specializes in pre-treating and powder coating various ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
In 2022, the merger with Agro Active would follow. With the merger, for which the idea arose when both companies were active on a large greenhouse project, new plans also emerged.
"We also want to serve horticulture in a different way and have plenty of ideas about an even wider product range," we heard at one of the horticultural fairs where VD Horst can invariably be found.
Festivities to celebrate this milestone are planned for mid-October. When these are over, we will undoubtedly hear more about this and VD Horst's future plans.
