Bosman Van Zaal launched a new machine, "The Trayless PlantBoxer," which packages plants directly into cardboard boxes, reducing the need for traditional plastic trays. According to Bosman Van Zaal, this development promises a reduction in plastic waste, an 'urgent necessity' given the millions of trays discarded annually after transport.
The new packaging machine is specifically designed to meet the needs of growers looking to reduce their ecological footprint. By replacing plastic trays with recyclable cardboard, the machine aims to offer a more environmentally friendly alternative that reduces waste production. In addition to handling standard boxes, cardboard packaging provides the flexibility to also use display boxes, which can be used directly in retail environments, potentially boosting sales.
Wouter Verhoef, technical automation specialist at Bosman Van Zaal, says that this is a "Step forward in our pursuit of automated and more sustainable packaging solutions." He believes that the technology can help save on transport and production costs.
