CAN: Katch Kan Agro announces new consulting services for horticulture

Katch Kan Agro (KKA), an agricultural division of Katch Kan Holdings Ltd., based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, has announced its new consulting services for farmers and growers in open ground, greenhouses, and indoor cultivation facilities.

KKA provides services in sustainable crop production with a special focus on climate control, single-nutrient fertilizer recipes, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Many growers use premixed fertilizers which are substantially more expensive than individual components. KKA creates single-nutrient fertilizer recipes specific to your crop development stages in order to boost yield and quality. This allows growers to potentially save up to 90% of the cost by replacing expensive pre-mixed fertilizers and to have better control of the mix at different stages of plant development.

Another featured service is KKA's approach to Integrated Pest Management, where they recommend preventative and curative measures, including chemical and biological control of diseases and insects. That approach is especially valuable in Canadian vertical horticulture, where PCP products (pesticides) are currently not allowed. KKA introduces organic production methods outside of the PCP system for most of the crops grown under glass and roofs.

Dmytro Guzhva, Ph.D., P.Ag., General Manager and Chief Consultant, Katch Kan Agro says that the company: "Makes facilities clean by eliminating diseases such as powdery mildew, pythium, rhizoctonia, and insects such as aphids, spider mites, thrips, and many others. The most frequently asked question is – How do we achieve that? While there is no single "magic bullet" in our approach, there is a theme. We methodically address every single aspect of pest management: prevention, identification of pests, monitoring their populations, establishing thresholds, delivering treatments, and assessments of efficacy."
