Flor Ecuador 2024 will take place from the 8th to the 10th of October. The trade show, which is held biannually, is a meeting point for flower producers and entrepreneurs from all over the world. "This is the place where all actors involved in the flower trade chain can network and share their passion and expertise," says EXPOFLORES (the Ecuadorian National Association of Flower Producers and Exporters), the event organizer.
Getting back on track
Expo Flor Ecuador 2024 is the third edition of this trade fair. Previous editions took place in 2018 and 2022. The organizer points out that it wasn't easy getting it back on track after COVID. "The pandemic created a lot of uncertainty. Getting thousands of people together again under the same roof was something everybody felt dubious about, but it turned out better than expected. Both exhibitors and visitors were eager to meet again; we had all booths sold out early in the year and a very high attendance rate."
For this year's edition, which will take place in the Metropolitan Convention Center of Quito, Ecuador, Expo Flor Ecuador includes 126 different exhibitors. According to the organization, over 75% of these are flower farms (mostly local), and 93% of the exhibiting farms are Flor Ecuador Certified. The exhibitors also include logistics service providers, cargo airlines, flower breeders, and more. "This year the exhibition area has grown considerably to accommodate more stands. This shows the growing interest and relevance that Expo Flor Ecuador is gaining, both locally and internationally."
Ecuador – 'admiring flowers right at the source'
Even though Ecuador's specialty is roses, at Expo Flor Ecuador 2024 people will also have the chance to explore an array of other flowers: delicate Gypsophilas, colorful Alstroemerias, tropical Heliconias, cheerful Gerberas, exotic Orchids, just to name a few.
However, what makes this trade show really unique, EXPOFLORES states, is the opportunity to see flowers right at the farms where they grow. "In Quito, you are always no more than a couple of hours - or even minutes - away from every flower farm you'd dream of visiting. You not only seize all the networking and industry connections at the event, but you can also harness the chance of admiring the most beautiful flowers right at the source."
Innovation and technology
Further, EXPOFLORES highlights that the event is gradually focusing more on innovation and technology, and how it all can be applied to floriculture, saying: "It is not enough to have a privileged location and climate to grow the best flowers in the world. This involves information, data analysis, research, experimentation, software development, top technology and even – someday, not far from now - artificial intelligence. So innovation and new applications will definitely be something you'll hear about at the opening ceremony and around the exhibitors".
The security and technology used in this year's event is definitely new. For this edition, every person attending Expo Flor Ecuador 2024 has to register online. Not only to provide their company information, but also to complete a facial recognition process as the access to the venue will debut Face ID hardware and software.
Bigger, brighter, and bolder
When asked what EXPOFLORES expects for the future of the trade show, the organizers say the goal is always to have a bigger and better show, but more than that; "we seek to become a celebration of excellence and innovation in the flower industry. To be the best scene in the world to share knowledge, challenges, successes, and developments that will drive the future of floriculture."
