On 4 and 5 September, Vitroflora held their Open Days called 'Living Catalogue'. The event took place on the premises of the company's head office in Trzęsacz near Bydgoszcz (Poland). The event was exclusively for clients. Nevertheless, the company was happy to share some of their experiences and photos with us.
"We know how important it is for customers to get to know the plants not only from photographs, but also to see them 'live'. In addition, we wanted to share knowledge and encourage discussion among our customers in the face of increasing pressure to carry out sustainable plant production," the Vitroflora team comments.
A 'Living Catalogue'
Perennials, a panel discussion, and technological solutions
The event was held only now, as the Covid-19 pandemic prevented it to be held in the past few years. According to Vitroflora, this year's event was different from the previous, saying: "This is the first time that we presented such a wide range of perennials already planted in the ground. This provided an excellent opportunity to compare varieties - their growth, earliness and other characteristics. Some of the plants were planted in previous years, which made it possible to get to know the adult plants."
The discussion panel
The company highlights that they also placed much more emphasis on the content side of the event: the panel discussion, and the opportunity to see the technological solutions used in our greenhouses. During a panel discussion, which was named 'The future is today', CEO Tomasz Michalik and invited guests discussed the topics of peat-free substrates, fertilization and plant biosecurity.
Novelties and more
During the event, Tomasz and Aleksander Michalik presented various novelties in a lecture. The lecture consisted of two parts. The first part dealt with the perennial market and covered topics such as sales groups, the purpose of perennials, and the breeding of new varieties.
Among the novelties presented were Bloomix - compositions of bedding plants and perennials, as well as other novelties such as the Heliopsis 'Oriole Single Yellow', Lythrum 'Luminara Lilac' and 'Luminara Hot Pink', Nepeta 'Blue Planet', and Rudbeckia hirta 'SmileyZ™ BIG Cheerleader'.
The novelties exposition
Further, guests were also invited to have a look in the greenhouse, the demonstration gardens and the company's collection of ground-planted perennials. Moreover, there was the opportunity to meet Vitroflora partners which among others included companies that are active in the field of fertilization, plant protection, irrigation, disinfection, and potting.
The company tour
The Vitroflora team states that the event was a "complete success": "Despite the high temperatures, we hosted more people than we had planned. We welcomed about 700 visitors, most of them from Poland. All in all, it was a great event, many people toured the collection themselves, and questions arose during tours and panel discussions. And like the previous edition, there was good humor and a friendly atmosphere."
