NL: "Staff are a lot happier because they don't have to walk miles"

"If you want to take good care of your staff at the nursery or in the greenhouses, this is an ideal means of transport, and they find it fun and easy too," Johan Velting tells us enthusiastically. His Workstep is still a fairly new concept in the flower and plant world, yet there are already some companies using it, at home and abroad.

From hobby project to Workstep 2.0
Johan ended up in the green sector by chance, he says: "It all started as a hobby project and now we have the Workstep 2.0. A bicycle dealer spotted it, took the electric cart to a trade fair and there appeared to be a lot of interest in the cart. We now drive from Friesland to Westland about twice a week for demos, PR, and aftercare."

"Nice little electric cart"
"There are continuous developments in the green sector, but we see that employees are used to the scooter or bicycle, or an expensive electric cart. There was nothing in between. So for that we now have the Workstep, a small, stable, and sturdy four-wheel electric cart for the price of a bicycle," Johan says. "It can go forward, and backward, meets health and safety requirements, and is safe, light, and affordable. You can safely carry something, and the Workstep can be extended with a coupling (for CC carts) allowing it to pull up to 500 kilos, which is about four carts. And yes, it's just a nice little electric cart that can be used for multiple purposes."

Parade
Meanwhile, Johan already has quite a few customers, including Ansu Vanda in Wateringen. This company, an orchid nursery, already uses about 20 Worksteps. "The staff are a lot happier because they don't have to walk miles and lug and pull heavy carts," he says.

Steef Adrichem of Ansu Vanda agrees that his staff enjoys using the Workstep. "We met Johan at a trade fair in Gorinchem and were immediately excited. We have a large company with light products and often small orders so the trolley comes in handy. First it was a bit of a change for our staff, after a few weeks, everyone wanted to use. We only expanded their use, otherwise the staff is not happy," Steef laughs. "It is much more fun to pick up some boxes with such an electric trolley than when you have to walk a long way. With a birthday at the company, you can expect us all to have a Workstep parade in the greenhouse."

Johan concludes, "Many vegetable grower also use the Workstep and even an onion seed supplier uses it to plant onions. We also sometimes do customisation work, so that the electric cart can be used by everyone. We even developed a first prototype for a tube-rail cart."
