Benary purchases Seedling Scan Pro

Benary, a breeder of ornamental seeds, has purchased the Seedling Scan Pro from AgriData Innovations. According to Benary, this system performs usable counts, making time-consuming hand counts a thing of the past. In addition, it automatically stores photos of the trays, aiming to make usable plant tests easily viewable. The Seedling Scan Pro has been developed by Delft-based AgriData Innovations (ADI). ADI specialises in camera systems and image analysis software for monitoring crop growth and health. Henriette Ziermann, Scientist SeedTech discusses how the Seedling Scan Pro is used, the added value of the system, and the experiences with ADI.

Ziermann first describes the challenges and needs that led Benary to consider the Seedling Scan Pro. "The primary challenges that prompted us to consider the Seedling Scan Pro were focused on achieving greater precision in standardized germination rate evaluations, thereby improving the consistency of seedling assessments. Additionally, practical benefits such as time savings and reducing employee workload were key drivers in our decision."

After a six-month pilot phase, the Benary team adapted the software to their crops and specific counting needs, they are now starting to use the Seedling Scan Pro for their main crops. "We are excited to see how the device performs in daily operations moving forward. The most valuable features we've experienced so far are its speed and accuracy, which have been a great support to our staff in the quality lab. Additionally, the high-quality images it generates can be saved and reviewed later, providing excellent documentation and allowing for manual oversight if necessary," Ziermann comments.

She further elaborates on the benefits of the system, saying: "The Seedling Scan Pro significantly enhances both, efficiency and accuracy by providing more precise counts utilizing consistent predefined parameters tailored individually to each crop. With the potential for human errors and inaccuracies significantly reduced, we expect our results to become even more accurate. As we are just beginning to implement the Seedling Scan Pro in our daily workflow, we anticipate significant time savings and reduced workload for our employees."

Benary praises the Seedling Scan Pro and AgriData Innovations with the following words: "Our experience with AgriData Innovations' customer support has been very positive, marked by prompt responses and excellent communication throughout the process. Based on our pilot phase, we would recommend the Seedling Scan Pro. It offers significant potential to save time, reduce employee strain, and delivers consistently accurate and highly reliable germination assessments. These features are crucial to our high standards in seed batch quality before sale."
