According to the article, workers have to work in harsh conditions against low wages, while also being confronted with "unrealistic" targets and other forms of pressure.

The BBC also reports that flower workers are concerned about their health, for instance because of the pesticides they work with. In addition, the article speaks about allegations of unpaid overtime and sexual harassment. The piece further discusses the environmental costs of flower production, and the prices of Kenyan flowers sold in European supermarkets and flower shops.
