India: 'Marigolds bloom in festivals in Telangana but state slow in cultivating it'

Telangana's two primary festivals, Bonalu and Bathukamma, are also a floral celebration. While many types of flowers are used, the one that stands outs is marigold. Yet, marigold cultivation is confined to just about 2,000 acres in Telangana and the state is dependent on supplies mostly from Karnataka and Maharashtra. Although the area under cultivation has increased from 955 acres in 2020-21to 2,021 acres in 2023-24, agriculture experts said that the state's marigold supply remains inadequate.
