Flower supplies in the local markets have surged significantly amid growing demand during the Navratri period, although quality issues stemming from untimely rains have kept prices stable.
Demand for flowers usually escalates every Navratri and persists until Diwali. Traders mentioned that untimely rains have inflicted damage on the quality of flowers, resulting in a substantial influx of flowers in the market.
"Prices of exotic flowers have skyrocketed because this is the peak demand season. Prices of most exotic flowers like roses, sewanti, and rajnigandha have escalated, though marigold is trading low," said Pintu Badwal, a flower trader from Pardeshipura.
Rajnigandha is trading at Rs 600 per kg, up from Rs 300 per kg, sewanti is at Rs 300 per kg, compared to Rs 100 per kg, and rose is Rs 100-150 per kg, as opposed to Rs 80 per kg, according to traders.
