About the Middle East, autumn colours and expensive tulip bulbs

The Tulip season hasn't started yet, but preparations are in full swing. Roelof Stijnman of EZ Flower: "The price agreements are being remade and because of the shortage of bulb it is quite clear that tulips will become more expensive."

The company supplies tulips year-round as they are in high demand worldwide, for example in Korea. They also like tulips in the Middle East. Roelof: "I have just returned from Qatar and Abu Dhabi where importing flowers starts in October. The situation in the Middle East does make things uncertain, this is also the case for flower shipments. "We had a shipment to Qatar that was suddenly grounded in Sofia. Fortunately it did arrive in Qatar after a day," he says.

"Currently, we see that the demand for summer flowers is decreasing, and we are seeing a lot of autumn items. A new season always brings new things, which is nice. The autumn colors are beautiful, we see a lot of berries and flowers in dark autumn hues. And still see a lot of hydrangeas. We also see many cymbidiums heading for America and Asia. Gerberas, like tulips, are a year-round variety and very popular for export. Soon, amaryllises will return to the range." Roelof concludes: "We are preparing for the IFTF which we hope to attend for the first time. We will be there with Heemskerk Flowers, and it promises to be a very cool stand."
