NL: Stichting EPS gives funding to two projects at GrootGroenPlus

During the 34th edition of trade fair GrootGroenPlus in 2024, the Foundation European Plant Support (EPS) selected two submissions for financial support.

International focus of GrootGroenPlus
At the beginning of 2024, trade fair GrootGroenPlus submitted a proposal to EPS aimed at increasing the number of international buyers attending the event. The goal of this project was to promote international trade in nursery stock products, with a specific focus on the visually appealing segment of the industry. During GGP, the project already began to bear fruit, as the initial benefits of this effort were realized.

EPS launched a new project round
On 4 July 2024, EPS opened up a new round for innovative projects, inviting submissions until 1 September. On 4 October, during GrootGroenPlus, the EPS board convened to assess the entries. After extensive deliberations, it was decided to grant financial support to two projects: one submitted by Stichting VICOE (Vital Circular Organic Economy) and one submitted by coöperatieve vereniging Treeport Zundert.

VICOE Project 'The future belongs to the young'
The project submitted by Stichting VICOE, titled 'The future belongs to the young' focuses on involving primary school children in the municipality of Zundert in sustainability and the circular economy. The aim is to place a worm hotel in every primary school, teaching children about natural cycles and green management. VICOE will not only provide the worm hotels but also the necessary start-up materials, lesson plans, and guidance for the first three years. In this way, children will be engaged from a young age in the circular economy and healthy soil management, for example by processing their own green waste.

Treeport Zundert: multiple educational projects
Zundert applied for funding for five educational projects, two of which were approved. The first project involves knowledge activities surrounding the local celebration of Boomfeestdag in March 2025. The second project, called Expeditie Groen (Expedition Green), will enable 150 students at three locations to learn about nursery stock cultivation. EPS did stipulate that the working group, and thus the Middle Brabant region, must also be involved in these projects. This will not only enhance knowledge of nursery stock cultivation but also inspire new generations to become enthusiastic about the industry.

Presentation at GrootGroenPlus 2025
The projects receiving financial support will present their progress and results at the 35th edition of GrootGroenPlus, which will take place from 1 - 3 October 2025, in Zundert. Additionally, developments will be shared in the KwekersBode in the meantime, keeping the industry informed of their progress.

New opportunities for 2025
EPS is expected to launch a new round in 2025. This round will be open not only to entries from Zundert but also to projects from other regions, provided they contribute to the quality and sales of nursery stock. Through this support, EPS continues to invest in the future of the nursery stock industry and contributes to the growth and development of new generations within this vital industry.
