As the demand for sustainable practices increases across the horticultural industry, Chrysal is developing solutions aimed at supporting sustainability efforts throughout the entire flower supply chain, from growers to transporters, retailers, and consumers. They will present their latest advances in sustainable flower care at the Flora Holland Trade Fair (FHTF) in Aalsmeer, from November 5–7.
Sustainable packaging
Chrysal is transitioning all consumer packaging to recyclable alternatives as of 2024, aiming to support customers in becoming more sustainable and complying with upcoming regulations.
The company's packaging solutions are made from recyclable materials to contribute to circularity objectives. Key features include:
- Consumer sachets made from recyclable materials
- The company's plastic jerrycans and bottles are already recyclable and their barrels are made with recycled content.
- The company's carton boxes are composed of 80-100% recycled materials and will shift to entirely recyclable and FSC-certified cartons in the near future
Bio-based flower food formulas
Chrysal claims that their flower food formulas are 99% bio-based, and made from renewable plant-derived raw materials.
Sea freight & long storage
For growers and flower transporters, the challenge is keeping flowers fresh over long periods while reducing environmental impact. "Chrysal's Sea Freight & Long Storage service provides a unique postharvest treatment that enables global transport, preserving freshness and controlling Botrytis during extended storage. This allows flowers to be shipped by sea or stored for weeks, matching market supply and demand."
Fyt 'n Fyx
The need to decrease the use of environmental contaminants led Chrysal to explore new horizons. After years of research and testing Chrysal presents Fyt 'n Fyx, a Grower Program in which they offer customer solutions. "Proactive care for healthy flowers in the field combined with Chrysal Delivers Sustainability Across the Entire Flower Chain, from Growers to Consumers."
