Emsflower, Europe's largest nursery for pot and bedding plants based in Emsbüren, Germany, is undergoing a significant expansion. The project, which was announced earlier this year, covers a total of 14 hectares, including 12.5 hectares dedicated to cultivation and 1.5 hectares for warehousing, corridors, and various operational areas. The expansion, which focuses primarily on increasing the nursery's capacity for potted and bedding plants, includes a combination greenhouse that allows for diverse crop cultivation, including tomatoes.
As Erwin Savenije, a spokesperson for Emsflower, noted earlier this year, the new facility paves the way for future innovations in cultivation. "If this complex operates as expected, we might explore commercial lettuce cultivation on water or even year-round cultivation of various fruits and vegetables," he stated. Despite regional challenges with land availability, Savenije acknowledges the area's increasing appeal to businesses like Emsflower.
Emsflower has granted Havecon the assignment and following the project approval, Havecon's team quickly mobilized, with engineering teams already finalizing the necessary drawings while foundational work progresses on-site. Havecon will soon begin installing the drainage systems, which will be followed by the steel construction of the greenhouse itself.
The Voorwinden Group, a partner in the construction, has also started pouring concrete for the foundation, marking a visible milestone in this ambitious expansion.
