Highlights from Trade Fair Aalsmeer

In Aalsmeer about 600 exhibitors gathered to showcase their products and services. Visitors came to see and discuss the latest innovations, novelties, and developments in the sector. Reportedly, the run-up was good during the past two days, especially so on the second day.

The flower sector has come under scrutiny recently because of the use of pesticides. This is also an important conversation topic at the exhibition floor. Initiatives and connections are being sought to jointly show the world that the sector is already makes great strives regarding this issue. This year, there also seems to be special attention for the sustainability theme. Kreuwel Plastics, for instance, presented their range of 100% recyclable pots and buckets.

A busy week
It's a busy week for the floriculture industry with two trade shows going on in the Netherlands which are accompanied by a variety of activities and events. Among these are the award ceremonies of the Glass Tulip Awards and the Greenovation Award.

Yesterday was also a festive day for the Dutch Flower Group, which celebrated their 25th anniversary and presented the Dutch Flower Awards. Prior to the presentation, Jan van Dam, CEO of DFG, gave an update on recent developments and the most important milestones of the Dutch Flower Group of the past year. In his speech he also emphasized the importance of flowers and plants for the well-being of people and underlined the power of partnership: "Only by working closely with our growers can we continue to innovate and strengthen our commitment to sustainability, ensuring that together we stand resilient for the future."

Further, the fair provided an opportunity for near-by companies, such as Decofesh, to open their doors for the public. Located one floor below the Trade Fair, Decofresh, displayed their entire range to customer while a florist created various bouquets to take home.
