“It's great to see how the varieties perform in the North-European climate”

In week 43-45, for the second year in a row, the Morel Production Trials took place at the premises of Plantenkwekerij P. Mostert in 's-Gravenzande, the Netherlands. During the event, the French Cyclamen persicum breeder and seed producer showcases pre-introductions, new varieties, and existing and improved varieties. "Here, one can experience our life-sized catalog, retail setups, and cyclamen showcased in living spaces. This event offers a chance to connect with our team and delve into the innovations driving the future of cyclamen breeding," states the Morel team.

See varieties perform
Our FloralDaily editor paid a visit to the trials, John Mostert of Plantenkwekerij P. Mostert walked her through the colorful cyclamen. He finds the trials a valuable experience: "For a grower it's great to see how the varieties perform in the North-European climate, and how some of them improved."

He draws attention to the improvement of the Indiaka mini, Petit Moulin, and Fantasia varieties. The Indiaka has been on the market for several years, but now it's also available with small-sized flowers.

He also tells that the double-flowered Petit Moulin cyclamen now can flower up to 100 days as it does not contain any pollen. Moreover, he sees that the color of the purple Fantasia has become more refined.

Exploring novelties
Morel constantly carries out tests with reds to get a brighter color, which recently resulted in the new Red Allegro. Other novelties include the Cloche variety, its hanging flowers are available in multiple colors.

Some more highlights
It's hard to pick a favorite in this colorful sea of cyclamen. However, John shares that he finds the Curly particularly special. And Stephane Lemonie of Morel considers the Victoria Salmon to be one of the highlights, this light pink variety is now commercially available.
