Last Friday, Chrysal hosted the Chrysal Italy Wedding Event at its headquarters in Naarden. The day included workshops, tours, and conversations about sustainability, but the emotional highlight was the "baptism" ceremony of a new red Gerbera variety, "Alfredo," in honor of the late Italian florist Alfredo "Ave" Corvi.
A tribute to Alfredo Corvi's legacy
According to Chrysal, Alfredo Corvi, known as "the florist of Varese," left a lasting impression on his community before he passed away in 2021 due to COVID-19. To honor his legacy, a new red Germini Gerbera, developed by Dümmen Orange, was named "Alfredo." During the ceremony, Giovanni, Alfredo's brother, expressed his gratitude, saying, "Few can say that a flower has been specially named after them." The ceremony, organized by Charles Lansdorp, a close friend of Alfredo, brought together family, friends, and industry peers to celebrate Alfredo's life and passion for flowers.

Sustainability in the wedding market
The Chrysal Italy Wedding Event also focused on sustainability in the floral industry. Flower designers Bert Kuiper and Dini Holtrop introduced the "Flowerbar" concept, a sustainable and customized approach to wedding flowers. Antonio Fracassi, the country manager of MPS Italy, shared insights on developments in sustainably grown flowers in Italy.
A symbolic future for the "Alfredo" Gerbera
Currently, there are only about twenty specimens of the red Germini Alfredo, but it is expected to be available worldwide by 2025, including in Alfredo's shop on Corso Matteotti. Alfredo's memory will live on in floral arrangements that accompany joyful occasions around the world.
