LATAM Cargo Group was among the recipients of the recent Air Cargo News Awards, recognized for its environmental initiatives. The company's "1+1: Compensate to Conserve" carbon offset program, which invites cargo customers to collectively offset their shipment emissions, earned the company a special mention.
Nine categories were open for this year's awards, including one focused on sustainability initiatives in the air cargo industry. According to LATAM Cargo Group, they were the only South American cargo airline among the finalists, receiving a special mention in the "Air Cargo Environment Award" category.
In 2021, LATAM Airlines Group launched its updated sustainability strategy, which included its carbon offset program. The group states that it was the first airline to create this collaborative offsetting methodology, inviting corporate and cargo customers to offset 50% of their emissions, while LATAM offsets the remaining 50% through conservation projects in South America.
