Select Breeding, Hoven & de Mooij

"The Red Bentley is a hit"

Last week, a striking red Bentley showed up at the door of Hoven & de Mooij. Or well, actually a lot of red Bentleys. After all, Select Breeding's red rose Red Bentley is gaining considerable ground, Michael de Geus explains. To celebrate, there was a photo moment with the two Red Bentleys together. "And it certainly lives up to its name, it's a picture," thinks Peter Vrouwe, relationship manager at Hoven & de Mooij.

"We have been working with Select Breeding for more than 10 years now. For us, the Red Bentley is a premium addition in the red segment supplied from Kenya," Peter says.

"The rose has now been supplied for two years, and we notice that demand in the market is growing. Several growers are joining and the acreage is increasing," Michael adds. "Produced by growers in Ethiopia and Kenya, Red Bentley has a striking red color, with a classic open bloom and strong vase life.Red Bentley produces uniform buds and straight strong stems mainly in length 50 to 80. For growers, the rose has the advantage of not being susceptible to downy mildew which ensures continuity of production year-round."

At Hoven & de Mooij, they held an open house last week, with presentations from various suppliers, breeders, and growers they work with. "The 'open house' started about 20 years ago for promoting novelties, and has grown into what it is today," Peter Vrouwe explains. "Many traders and growers come to visit and see the novelties, and we guide them through it. We love to put products like the Red Bentley in the spotlight."
