When Pressell's Florist first began business in Hanover, things were a bit different. It was the "roaring '20s," the Hanover square was a traffic circle, the "golden mile" of Hanover's Eisenhower Drive was roughly 70 years away, and Calvin Coolidge was the president of the United States.
While many things, to put it mildly, have changed around Hanover and the United States, Pressell's Florist is among the few businesses that can attest to roots that date back a century.
Taking the legendary Hanover business into this milestone anniversary is current owner Karen McDermitt - who was born several decades after the business first opened.
The occasion was a special one for McDermitt, who worked at the shop during her high school years until she graduated in 1976. While she always dreamed of opening a flower shop, she couldn't have guessed that the iconic Hanover store she worked in would someday be her own.
