Training courses being offered to the Colombian floriculture sector

The Association of Colombian Flower Exporters (Asocolflores) has developed several strategies and training programs. One of these initiatives is the Comprehensive Training Plan (PIF, in Spanish), which promotes knowledge transfer and training in key issues that are aligned with the specific needs of the member companies and the realities of the Colombian flower-growing sector.

These trainings programs are updated and offered every month by the association. They are held and in-person in different cities and municipalities. The subjects covered include sustainability, innovation, logistics and transportation.

Asocolflores also offers "The Supervisors Academy," a program designed for flower plantation supervisors in Colombia. "This program is based on a comprehensive methodology that addresses in-depth skills, labor relations, competitiveness, and productivity, and it has strengthened leadership competencies, emotional intelligence, and management for over 341 supervisors since its inception in 2023."

Liliana Velásquez, Director of Human Talent at La Conchita Flowers, talks about the importance of The Supervisors Academy: "This training program develops and strengthens leaders' soft working competencies, which are decisive to attain organizational results. Initiatives such as this one facilitate the education processes, stressing synergy between companies and preparing us to face challenges in a changing world."

Asocolflores, through its Colombian Center for Floriculture Innovation (CENIFLORES), also provides the Ceniflores Academy which offers technical production training. This platform offers access to free courses and other material that cover subjects such as plant health, legislation, and requirements for flower export. Since its opening, the Ceniflores Academy has generated 1,560 certificates, states Asocolflores.

Likewise, Asocolflores promotes conferences and symposiums such as the Floriculture Congress held every two years, which gathers leaders and speakers who participate in dialogues that are concerned with the flower sector and its future.
