Auctioneer Luus Hooyman takes us through the latest developments on the clock. Now the Trade Fair is over - how nice it was to see and speak to everyone - and a new period begins. November is really a transition to the next season, winter. We also see this reflected on the clock. In addition, there is now room for other developments, yesterday all plants switched to Central Auctioning. Another milestone!
The supply on the clock shows that winter is coming. Typical seasonal flowers such as berries, colored branches, Amaryllis, and Peonies fill the range. The first tulips, the so-called ice tulips, have been replaced by the bulbs from Chile, which are scalded off in the Netherlands. Among plants, the offer is supplemented by heather plants, conifers, Helleborus, and Skimmia.
Central Auctioning: another step
An important milestone was reached yesterday, 21 November: all plants are now auctioned via central clocks. This means that the clocks of Naaldwijk, Aalsmeer, and some auction groups from Rijnsburg, have been merged. Although we already had one central clock since March, a change of this magnitude remains exciting for everyone. In the next blog, a fellow plant auctioneer will elaborate on this.
Visiting the grower
An important part of my job is visiting growers. Last week I also visited several Amaryllis growers to catch up. Amaryllis season is always an exciting time. Most growers have to earn their annual income in a few months. Because the marketing period of these growers is very short, it's striking to see what has changed in a year. During these visits, topics such as Central Auctioning, random grower lots and/or start grower lots, auction groups, method of auctioning and so on pass by. These conversations provide valuable insights and help us improve cooperation.
Promotion
Returning briefly to the Trade Fair, I feasted my eyes, beautiful creations were made. Much of it was captured on photo or video. These images can be found on social media, such as Instagram. The more beautiful images we share of our sector, the more likely consumers will feel like buying those carefully grown products. So keep sharing your beautiful images.
