Going green in the classroom

To engagge children with nature and raise awareness of the importance of plants, Bloemenbureau Holland is working with GreenBee Foundation this winter. Together, they will organize lessons on plants in primary schools and turn more than 30 classrooms into green spaces in various provinces of the Netherlands.

GreenBee's mission is to green both the indoor spaces of schools and the hearts of new generations. With an educational program, they aim to show children how beautiful indoor plants are and how fun (and important) it is to take care of plants. They seek to make children look at nature in a different way and tell them what plants can do for them in an educational, playful way that combines theory and practice.

A green future
By cooperating with GreenBee Foundation, this year, 30 classes can experience for themselves what it means to have plants in the classroom. During the plant lessons, they will not only learn how to care for plants but also discover the benefits and joy of greenery.

Benefits
The most special thing GreenBee Foundation sees time and again during the lessons is the way children connect with their plants. They give the plants names and faces, and cuttings are cared for with love and attention. They find that the playful interaction shows that a sense of responsibility develops - both with the plants and with each other.

"By introducing children to caring for plants, classrooms not only become cozier and healthier, but children also learn valuable lessons that will benefit them later in life. Green in the classroom thus takes important steps towards a greener, more sustainable future."
