Meeting the man behind Dekker's online security

In Dekker Chrysanten's monthly column 'Face of the family', they always put one of their colleagues in the spotlight. This month, you will meet Peter de Jong, the rock of the ICT department.

Peter lives in Ursem, just a few steps away from the company. "I cycle to work every day, which is wonderful," Peter says. At 57 and now with more than a decade of experience at Dekker Chrysanten, he has become an indispensable force. But how did he join Dekker? "After my time as a software developer at DSB Bank, I started at Dekker Chrysanten via Bluedesk. I was seconded there, but after some time the company offered me a permanent position. That immediately felt like coming home."

As a member of the ICT department, Peter ensures that Dekker's IT systems run smoothly. "Our main task is to solve failures and make sure the production process does not grind to a halt," he explains. "Whether it's sensors in the greenhouse, data not being processed properly, or technical failures, we are ready to solve it quickly." He also manages databases, tests new software, and supports other departments by analyzing data and optimizing processes.

Family business and self-employment
What Peter appreciates most about Dekker Chrysanten is the unique working atmosphere. "Dekker Chrysanten is really a family business, and you can feel that. The lines are short, everyone is approachable, and there is a nice, informal atmosphere. That makes you enjoy going to work." He adds, "I appreciate the independence I get. There is a lot of room to take initiative and organize my work in my own way. That trust motivates me enormously."

Peter is proud of his role within the company and the impact of his work. "As an ICT person, you usually work behind the scenes, but what we do is crucial. It feels good to know that you are contributing to the success of an innovative company like Dekker Chrysanten."
